Kieran Maguire: West Brom will be ‘delighted’ after ‘£12.5m’ FFP boost confirmed
West Brom will be “delighted” that the Championship’s new Covid financial measures have given them a “£12.5million” FFP cushion.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Baggies’ fortunes throughout the pandemic.
The EFL announced last Thursday (17 February) that second-tier clubs will be allowed to chalk up £2.5m in lost revenues to Covid.

That figure is on top of the £5m profit and sustainability allowances for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, taking the total to £12.5m
Albion are well placed to navigate the financial fallout of the pandemic given that they are currently in receipt of parachute payments.
But Maguire insists that the new measures will be welcomed at the Hawthorns all the same.
“In 2018-19, the last season in pre-Covid environment, West Brom made £7.3m from matchday income,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“I think for this season when we have had full crowds and that income stream has returned, the clubs will be delighted with £2.5m.
“This was a decision that was voted through at the EGM, so it was the clubs who voted through these numbers.
“They perhaps felt that the £5m for the last two seasons was a bit harsh. The figures are more generous, so it has worked out better from a long-term view.
“It’s £12.5m over the past three seasons. That’s how they’ll view it from an FFP perspective.”

The Baggies have not won in six matches and are currently 11th in the Championship.
Steve Bruce’s side are not in action this weekend but take on Swansea City next Monday (28 February).
In other news, Kevin Campbell suggests this is why West Ham favour West Brom star Sam Johnstone over Alphonse Areola this summer.
