West Ham 26-year-old responds to reported Bundesliga interest
By Danny Wright
West Ham midfielder Havard Nordtveit has admitted that he would find it hard to turn down the chance to return to the Bundesliga after a less than inspiring first season at the London Stadium.
German news outlet Kicker has reported that Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen are all plotting moves for the 26-year-old just a year after he moved to the Hammers from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Nordtveit played just 21 times across all competitions for Slaven Bilic’s side this term and made a measly 11 Premier League starts.
Despite the poor season, the former Arsenal player is still focused on getting ready for the beginning of the 2017/18 campaign with the Hammers.
“Currently I let speculation lie. I still have four years left on his contract with West Ham. I relate to it. And I’m getting ready to participate in preparations for the new season. It starts in July,” said Nordtveit, as quoted by Norwegian outlet Dagbladet.
“Yes, I had success in Germany. Absolutely. I was there for nearly six years. I will never reject a return to the Bundesliga.”
Nordtveit moved to Monchengladbach in 2011 after failing to earn a single minute of first-team football with Arsenal.
His first taste of Bundesliga football came when he was shipped out on loan to Nuremberg in 2009, where he made 20 appearances in all competitions.
The 31-times Norway international enjoyed a very positive spell with Monchengladbach, where he played 187 times in both domestic and European contests, scoring 12 goals.
Nordveit was just one part of what is largely deemed as a very poor recruitment drive by the Hammers last summer.
Simone Zaza, Gokhan Tore and Andre Ayew were among other flops brought in by Bilic as West Ham failed to finish in the top half of the Premier League.
