West Ham backed to agree Declan Rice swap deal amid source’s ‘huge’ reveal – pundit

Alan Hutton wouldn’t be surprised if Man City and West Ham completed a swap deal between Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Villa right-back said Phillips will be the main “stumbling block” in a potential deal.

On 7 January, sources told this site that West Ham would be willing to swap Declan Rice for Kalvin Phillips plus cash in a summer deal.

Rice will have a year left on his contract at the end of the season and Man City are among the teams monitoring his situation.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (1 January) that the Irons have reignited their interest in Phillips following his Guardiola dressing down.

David Moyes is an admirer of the former Leeds United man and West Ham were linked with a £50million bid for him last January.

The midfielder’s contract at the Etihad runs until 2028.

Hutton suggested a swap deal is a likely scenario.

You are talking about similar players,” he told Football Insider.

It has not really worked out for Phillips at Man City at this moment in time. Declan Rice, every single transfer window his name pops up with a move.

He has said he wants to play in the Champions League so it is probably going to happen at one time.

But it comes down to the valuation. I would not have thought it is just like for like. There will be huge money involved as well. But it would not surprise me if something like that came about.

But all players have to be happy. Kalvin Phillips is the main stumbling block if he says he is not moving then it is dead in the water.
