West Ham branded ‘crazy’ as potential David Moyes replacement identified – pundit

West Ham would be “crazy” to sack David Moyes and replace him with Rafael Benitez.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Moyes’ future.

According to The Telegraph (15 January), West Ham are considering appointing a “short-term” option like Benitez as Moyes’ job hangs in the balance.

The report also mentions former Wolves and Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo as someone on the Irons’ shortlist.

McManus insists the Hammers are better off sticking with Moyes.

“Rafa, you’ve got to be joking?” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“I think he is done in the Premier League. The last couple of jobs he had were far from his best. None of the names you see mentioned fills me with any confidence.

“Rafa, Nuno, just keep Moyes. He is not having a great season but he must have so much money in the bank. Let him see it out and then go again next season.

“Putting Rafa in for a few months would change absolutely nothing, for me. Then you are looking for another manager in the summer anyway.

“I don’t know what they are thinking down there if they genuinely want to bring in someone like Benitez instead of Moyes.

“It would be a crazy decision.”

Benitez was last in charge of Everton during the 2021-22 season but was sacked after less than six months in the job.

Frank Lampard replaced him and is now under pressure himself.
