West Ham bust-up at the heart of David Moyes’ contract saga- sources

David Moyes is stalling on signing a new contract at West Ham due to his fractured relationship with fans and a rift with sporting director Tim Steidten, sources have told Football Insider.

Moyes has confirmed he has been offered a new deal at the London Stadium – with his current contract set to expire in June.

However, the Scot is yet to decide on his future with a vocal and sizeable section of supporters at West Ham against him renewing his deal at the London Stadium.

A well-placed source has also told Football Insider that Moyes “doesn’t see eye to eye” with transfer guru Steidten amid fears their relationship is beyond repair.

The German was appointed last summer and sources say the pair have “no rapport” – with Moyes also not keen on the appointment of his brother, Moritz Steidten, as head of international scouting and recruitment.

Moyes ‘doesn’t see eye to eye’ with West Ham transfer guru Steidten

Steidten and the West Ham boss fell out in last summer’s transfer window over how the Irons should spend the funds brought in by the sale of ex-captain Declan Rice.

And while imports like Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse have proved successful – the Irons have struggled for form so far in 2024.

Moyes’ side won 4-2 at home against Brentford on Monday (26 February) – their first victory of the calendar year.

West Ham sit eighth in the Premier League and will play Freiburg in the Europa League Round of 16 next month.

Moyes is four years into his second spell at the club and won the Europa Conference League last term.
