West Ham could accept £35m Tomas Soucek bid after source’s reveal – pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested West Ham could sell Tomas Soucek for £35million this summer after a falling out with David Moyes.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Irons may need to offload the 27-year-old for the good of the squad.

A West Ham source told Football Insider on Thursday (26 May) that the club are open to offers for the midfielder, with his future shrouded in uncertainty.

Contract talks have stalled with the Czech Republic international, while there is tension between the player and Moyes after an altercation.

Whelan suggested the Hammers could demand as much as £35million to get him out the door in east London.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think you’re going to be looking at the £30-35million bracket easily.

“Whether he’d command more, I’m not so sure. He’s a fantastic player, one of those players who’s a powerhouse in that midfield area. If you can get £35million for a player like Soucek, I don’t think you’d be hard-pressed to say that’s not a good price for him.

“When you’ve had a falling out with a manager and there are contract discussions stalling, you know there’s an issue there. You don’t want that negativity hanging around the side.

“So you either give him what he wants or you’ve got to just let one go, cut him loose and take the money. Put it into somebody that is going to be happy in and around the training ground.

West Ham

“One thing that West Ham have always had up until this point is that continuity with the players and the management. Everyone was singing off the same hymn sheet, they have had a good group of players and staff around them with that togetherness.

“It seems that one bit could ruin everything that they’ve tried to build up for years.”
