West Ham could agree ‘huge’ Marcus Rashford deal in ‘crazy’ twist
West Ham could afford to sign Marcus Rashford on loan if Manchester United are willing to pay half of his wages and are not looking for a loan fee.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider agreeing a deal for the England international this month would cost any interested party a “huge” amount of money.
In an interview with journalist Henry Winter on 17 December, Rashford revealed he is “ready for a new challenge and the next steps”.
But the 27-year-old’s deal, which is believed to be worth in excess of £325,000 a week, isn’t set to expire until 2028.
The forward has registered seven goals and three assists in 24 appearances this season, but he hasn’t played for Ruben Amorim’s side since early December.
BBC Sport reported on 9 January West Ham have expressed an interest in signing Rashford, while Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli have also been linked with a January move for him.
West Ham could be Marcus Rashford’s only Premier League option
Borson revealed West Ham could be the only viable option in the Premier League for the Old Trafford academy product this month.
He told Football Insider: “If you were to go through the Premier League, had Man United not been as close to West Ham in the league table, I think West Ham would historically have been the sort of club they would have wanted to deal with on Rashford.
“It’s hard to think United would want to do a deal with any of the other top six. I doubt they would want to do a deal with Newcastle, just because they are effectively a block on United from a Champions League perspective.
“As crazy as it sounds given the way the league table looks, United have probably not given up on Champions League.
“You start to get down the list of teams who could even theoretically afford 50 per cent of Rashford’s wages. At 50 per cent of his wages, I would think he would still be the highest-paid player at West Ham.
“If you go below West Ham, it’s hard to see who else could pay around £160,000 a week. United would obviously prefer the player to be out of the Premier League if they could get somebody to share his wages.

“I think United’s best prospect is 50 per cent of his wages and no loan fee. It’s going to be difficult to get more from somebody because it’s a huge amount.
“If they can’t get him out to Italy or Germany and PSG don’t want Rashford, then I think West Ham is a viable proposition.”
