West Ham could be signing new ‘Craig Dawson’ as contact made – pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested West Ham could replicate the success of signing Craig Dawson by raiding Everton for Michael Keane.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed David Moyes could get the 29-year-old’s career back on track after a “bad season” at Goodison Park.

As revealed by Football Insider on Thursday (9 June), West Ham have registered their interest in signing Keane after missing out on James Tarkowski.

This site broke the news on Wednesday morning (8 June) that the Burnley man was undergoing a medical with the Toffees that day.

Whelan insisted Moyes might be the “one man” who can turn Keane’s fortunes around.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Only last year we were raving about Keane at Everton after a fantastic season. He was tipped for England.

“After a bad season, a relegation battle and indifferent performances, there’s probably only one man that can do that. It is David Moyes. He probably sees the best this player has got to offer, rather than the worst we’ve seen this year.

“If anyone can do it, you look at Craig Dawson. Moyes is the man that can bring out the best in these sort of players. There are not many that have been as good as Dawson, he’s the elder statesman there.

West Ham

“It just goes to show that with a bit of grit, determination and consistent performances that he puts in, he made himself that valuable player and leader West Ham need at the back.

“If West Ham are looking at Keane, he’s wanting a little bit more experience. A bit more of a proven centre-half there, a commander at the back.”
