West Ham could ‘leave sour taste’ for Flynn Downes after confirmed news – pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested West Ham United will benefit from the signing of Flynn Downes.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said the only negative would be if the move “doesn’t go right” for the player.
The Hammers confirmed (7 July) the signing of the signing of the 23-year-old.
The midfielder joins David Moyes’ side from Swansea City, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.
Hutton said it’s good for clubs to have players that are also life-long fans of the team.
“I think it is a good thing to have players that will run through a brick wall for the club,” he told Football Insider.
“It always helps, you understand the rivalries, what it means to play for the shirt. The fans immediately take to you. These are all plus points, it’s always good.
“I don’t see too many negatives. From a personal point of view, the only negative would be if it didn’t work out and it doesn’t go right or you’re not treated right.

“If something like that goes on and leaves a sour taste in your mouth because that’s the team that you’ve supported growing up, been supporting since you were a child.
“So that the only kind of negative I think. To have players in who would go the extra yard, let the new boys from abroad come in and show them what it’s all about, I think that only helps you moving forward.“
