West Ham could sell Tomas Soucek to fund two new signings after Tottenham source’s reveal – pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested West Ham could sign two new players by selling Tomas Soucek to a club like of Tottenham this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted cashing in on the 27-year-old could prove “good business” for the Irons.

A Tottenham source told Football Insider on Thursday (2 June) that the club have been offered the chance, via intermediaries, to sign Soucek.

West Ham

As detailed by this site last month (26 May), West Ham will listen to offers for the midfielder after a falling out with David Moyes.

Talks over a new contract have stalled and a Hammers source has told Football Insider there is a real chance Soucek will be sold.

Whelan insisted West Ham “cannot afford” to lose the Czech Republic international on the cheap.

He suggested funds raised from his sale would help strengthen the squad.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Negotiations have stalled at West Ham with Tomas Soucek. They’re a team that can’t really afford to let a player go on a free contract. There’s no point keeping a player if he’s not happy at the club.

“If it works out for the two of them, it gives the equity that West Ham can go and strengthen. They can bring another player in, or maybe two players in.

“That might work out as being good business.”

Soucek’s contract at the London Stadium runs until the summer of 2024.

He signed his current terms when he joined permanently from Slavia Prague in 2020.

The midfielder has played 105 times to date for the Irons, with 19 goals to his name.
