West Ham could sign Loftus-Cheek & make him into a superstar

West Ham could sign AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek and help him develop into an elite Premier League talent.

This is according to former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, as he explained that the Hammers could help him reach the superstar potential he showed when he was younger.

Loftus-Cheek, 28, left Chelsea in a £15million move to Milan in 2023 and has established himself as an important player in Paulo Fonseca’s side.

He has made eight appearances in central midfield so far this season, having scored ten goals and provided two assists in 40 appearances last time out.

However, during his development at Stamford Bridge and through the England youth ranks, he had been tipped as one of the country’s brightest young talents.

He was included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup in 2018 off the back of an impressive year with Crystal Palace, but has earned just two caps since then.

As a result, Robinson has suggested a return to the Premier League could help him display the level he was expected to reach as a youngster.

This comes after reports in Italy linked the Hammers with a move for the former Chelsea talent.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek tipped to make Premier League return with West Ham

Robinson, who remains very well-connected across the game, insisted that he expects Loftus-Cheek to return to England at some stage.

He suggested that the midfielder is simply developing towards his best level later than many had expected and still has plenty of room to grow and improve.

It’s a difficult one,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s one of those players where you’re always talking about ‘He’s got potential’, and then you look at him now and he’s 28.

“He’s moved to Italy and is playing regularly over there, but at some point, he’s going to have to fulfil that potential.

“He played for England at every single level from Under-16s all the way through, and he is a player of real quality.

“Can I see him coming back to the Premier League? Yeah, I can.

“I think he’s still got time in his career and he’s one of these players who will keep developing later than we initially expected him to.

West Ham

“Whether West Ham is the right place for him, we don’t know, but a move might help bring that potential out that we all know is there.”
