West Ham could sign next Richarlison after ‘incredible’ Sky update – pundit

Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa could be “a real asset” to West Ham despite his lack of Premier League experience, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Everton captain, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 25-year-old could enjoy similar success to countryman Richarlison if he completed a move to the London Stadium.

According to Sky Sports (4 January), the Hammers have held talks over signing Barbosa from Flamengo.

The prolific centre-forward is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League amid interest from three other English sides.

His contract with Flamengo runs until the winter of 2024.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the signing would be a risk, Campbell said:

“We have seen Richarlison come over to the Premier League from Brazil and do very well. Plenty of players have come over as unknowns and done very well. It is down to the team and the individual.

“He will be in competition with [Michail] Antonio and the great thing about Antonio is, he can play pretty much anywhere. He is so versatile.

“I think Barbosa could come in and be a real asset. If he can settle quickly then West Ham have a real player on their hands.

“His stats are incredible but it will be more difficult in England.”

Barbosa has been one of the standout players in South America in recent seasons.

He has scored 84 goals in 124 appearances for Flamengo.
