West Ham hit by major blow as Ben Johnson talks collapse – pundit
Paul Robinson has claimed West Ham will be “desperate” to tie Ben Johnson down to a new contract.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 22-year-old has “improved a lot over the past couple of seasons.”
Johnson’s contract at the London Stadium runs until the end of June 2024.
According to Claret and Hugh (26 November), West Ham have put a halt on contract talks with Ben Johnson’s representatives.
The two parties have apparently have been unable to come to an agreement on a new deal in previous negotiations earlier in the year.
When asked by Football Insider if Johnson was deserving of a new long-term deal, Robinson said: “Ben Johnson improved a lot over the past couple of seasons.
“They will be desperate to keep a hold of him, especially given that Dawson will likely be leaving in January.
“West Ham have a good squad of players and Johnson is a key part of that. His versatility is an asset and David Moyes will know that.

“It has been a difficult start to the season for West Ham but their squad is as strong as it has been in years. There is a few players who will get much better in the second half of the season, Lucas Paqueta being one.
“I expect them to have a very good second half of the season.”
In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed West Ham could now emulate a ‘big’ Arsenal deal and attract new generation of fans.
