West Ham Exclusive: Julen Lopetegui sack update today

Julen Lopetegui is under growing sack pressure at West Ham after the 5-0 home drubbing against Liverpool on Sunday (29 December), sources have told Football Insider.

The Irons were soundly beaten by the Premier League leaders, who ended the east London club’s four-match unbeaten run.

That result and performance has heaped the pressure back on Lopetegui for January after he escaped the sack with wins against Wolves and Southampton in December.

West Ham currently sit 13th in the Premier League table and it is believed a mid-table finish will not be enough for the Spaniard to continue in the role in the 2025-26 campaign.

It is understood that Irons chiefs will demand an improvement in performances and style – even if they will not come close to a relegation fight this term – or will be prepared to relieve him of his duties.

West Ham fans have not taken to Lopetegui since his arrival in the off-season, and that could prove another big factor in his potential premature exit.

Supporters flooded out of the London Stadium on Sunday as Liverpool comfortably ran out 5-0 winners and squandered several other chances to hammer home their advantage.
