West Ham expert fumes at transfer humiliation – ‘Someone needs the sack’

West Ham have been “embarrassed” by Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals after “trying to act like a big club”

West Ham United must sack whoever was responsible for the “embarrassing” departures of Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie was furious with how the club handled the pair’s moves and claimed manager David Moyes would also be displeased.

Fornals’ move to Real Betis was delayed due to a technical difficulty with his paperwork, while Benrahma’s transfer to Lyon nearly collapsed due to last-minute paperwork issues.

FIFA intervened and sanctioned the Algerian’s move after the French club released a scathing statement accusing West Ham of “incomprehensible” behaviour.

McAvennie admitted he was happy to see both players leave the London Stadium, but was adamant that someone at the club needed to be held accountable.

“It was embarrassing,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s embarrassing for the club and whoever dealt with all that – someone should get sacked.

“On deadline day, you have people there who deal with these late transfers and should know what they’re doing.

“They’re trying to act like a big club, but things like that just embarrass the club.

“It’s a strange one, Moyes wouldn’t have been happy either.

“I’m pleased they let Fornals go because he deserves to go and play.

West Ham

“He’s been brilliant for West Ham and he’s not spat his dummy out.

“Benrahma looked like he didn’t want to be there but I felt he needed to give 100 per cent.”
