West Ham expert tells Tim Steidten he ‘needs to go’ after Moyes fall-out

West Ham technical director Tim Steidten “needs to” leave the club if he does not get along with manager David Moyes.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie suggested that Moyes does not respect Steidten’s opinion amid well-sourced whispers of disagreements over targets and deals.

As revealed by Football Insider (30 January), Steidten is a leading contender to be the new Liverpool director of football, who have begun their search for a recruitment chief to replace Jorg Schmadtke.

Steidten has been a huge success at the east London side having spearheaded moves for summer signings Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse – all of whom have been in fine form in Stratford.

McAvennie admitted that he would not be disappointed if the former Bayern Leverkusen chief left the club to facilitate a harmonious backroom at West Ham.

“If he’s not getting on with David, then he needs to go,” he told Football Insider.

“I’ll give him a lift up the road if that is the case!

“We don’t want any disharmony at the club, everyone needs to be happy and they need a director that cares.

“They don’t have to like each other, but they need to have that respect and be on the same page with players.

“I’m not sure David respects his opinion.”
