West Ham fans have reacted with shock on Twitter after star striker Andy Carroll was held at gunpoint by armed motorcyclists on Wednesday.
The target man was ambushed by two motorcyclists who were wielding weapons at a junction, after leaving the training ground to return home.
Carroll, who has also played for Liverpool and Newcastle, was then followed by the two alleged gunmen as he returned to the training ground before police were called.
West Ham’s number nine returned to training on Thursday despite the incident, with the matter now in the hands of the police who are trying to track down the motorcyclists.
West Ham fans reacted on Twitter with worry for their injury-prone striker, while others reacted in amusing fashion to the news claiming that it was more shocking that he trained.

Carroll is currently sidelined with a knee injury after picking up a problem back in August and has failed to make an appearance in the claret and blue of West Ham since.
The Hammers face Stoke on Saturday, as they look to move further away from the Premier League relegation zone with a win.
