West Ham fans react on Twitter to Lanzini axe v Southampton

By Harvey Byrne

Manuel Lanzini was dropped to the West Ham bench on Saturday afternoon against Southampton – and Hammers supporters expressed their anger at the decision on Twitter.

The 23-year-old is one of two changes to the Hammers starting line-up as Slaven Bilic left Lanzini on the bench while Sam Byram was also left out of the 18-man squad after the 4-0 defeat suffered against Manchester City in midweek.

January signing Robert Snodgrass was brought in to the squad for the Argentinian, while Cheikhou Kouyate made his comeback to the line-up following Senegal’s elimination from the AFCON.

Supporters on social media expressed their anger towards the decision to leave out Lanzini with many believing him to be their best player.

Meanwhile, others felt that it should be captain Mark Noble to lose his place from the eleven.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Lanzini has played in 24 fixtures in all competitions for West Ham this season, bringing a return of four goals and two assists.

He has been at the Hammers since completing a move to the club in 2015 from Al Jazira Club, but his position in the team could now be up for contention following the addition of attacker Snodgrass.
