West Ham fired ‘huge’ Said Benrahma warning as David Moyes makes transfer decision – pundit

Noel Whelan has warned West Ham they would be making a mistake by selling midfield star Said Benrahma this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed that the 26-year-old would have no shortage of suitors in the Premier League due to the “huge quality” he possesses.

According to The Sun (8 June), West Ham are ready to listen to offers for Benrahma this summer with David Moyes looking to upgrade his squad in the transfer market.

The report claims free agent and former loan star Jesse Lingard is among Moyes’ potential targets.

Benrahma, who cost a reported total fee of £30million in 2020, scored 11 goals across all competitions in the 2021-22 season.

He has notched 12 goals and 13 assists in total since stepping up to the Premier League in October 2020.

When asked if shipping the former Brentford man out this summer would be a mistake for West Ham, he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge: “I would say yes.

“He was someone that a lot of Premier League sides wanted, and he’s not exactly had a shocking time at West Ham.

“It comes down to consistency again. When you come for big money, you’re expected to do big things.

“What he has found is that the Premier League is a lot tougher than the Championship. That’ll be something that David Moyes is questioning.

“Can he do it consistently against the big sides, or can he only do it sporadically?

“There is a real player in there.

“I guarantee you that if he does go on the market, they won’t be short of takers.

“Most teams would take the chance on someone with the huge quality that he has.”
