‘West Ham have just agreed £12m deal’ amid ‘big’ claim

West Ham will be hoping for a big improvement under Graham Potter next season after his low-key first months in charge at the London Stadium.

The Irons, who finished 14th in the 2024-25 campaign, will kick off the new season against Sunderland, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest in August.

Off the pitch, West Ham have agreed a new front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with Irish betting firm BoyleSports – which the Daily Mail have reported (11 June) is worth £12million.

They replace Betway as shirt sponsors despite a ban on gambling deals coming into effect from the 2026-27 season.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has expressed his disappointment at West Ham’s decision.

West Ham have ‘wasted’ chance to sign up ‘quality sponsor’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted West Ham should have built up a relationship with a “quality” sponsor this season – ahead of the ban in 2026.

Betway had been the front-of-shirt partner at the London Stadium since 2015.

Wyness claimed West Ham may find it hard to agree a deal with a new sponsor next season when as many as “seven clubs” will be looking for agreements.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “From the 2026-27 season, there will be no more betting sponsors on the front of shirts.

I think this is a bit of kicking the can down the road from West Ham. They’re taking the last big year of gambling money available, but West Ham I think really should have been focusing on trying to get a longer-term sponsorship deal, the continuity with that and growing with another sponsor.

“Given the stadium and the position in London, they should be able to attract a quality sponsor beyond gambling.

“I hope that they’re doing all that work this year to make sure that is the case going forward, because I think that they’re wasting that commercial opportunity with a gambling one.

“You’ve got to be planning beyond next year because there’ll be a number of clubs that’ll be looking around at the end of the season.

“You don’t want to be in that rush because if there’s let’s say seven clubs out looking for shirt sponsors at the same time of course the value goes down.

“I think West Ham should have perhaps been doing some better work this year. Now I don’t know if they’ve got clauses where they can cancel and bring new people in quickly, but they should be a longer-term position for a Premier League club like West Ham in terms of that front of shirt.

“It’s easier said than done, but nevertheless, that’s what should have been done – in my opinion.”

West Ham set sights on signing Serie A star

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (19 June) that West Ham are among a number of clubs tracking Genoa defender Aaron Martin.

Martin, 28, enjoyed an outstanding season with Genoa last term and was amongst the most creative defenders in Europe – laying on eight goals in 36 Serie A games.

West Ham are in the market for left-back reinforcements following the departure of Aaron Cresswell.
