West Ham hit by ‘big’ Jarrod Bowen blow after injury twist – pundit

Jarrod Bowen’s injury is a “big blow” for West Ham but it gives one of his teammates the chance to step up.

That is the view of ex-Premier League defender and friend of David Moyes Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider and the void left by Bowen’s injury.

The Athletic reported on Monday (21 March) the 25-year-old is now a doubt for West Ham’s two-legged Europa League quarter-final against Lyon next month.

The club initially thought he had not done significant damage to his foot but it is now claimed it has actually been fractured.

Bowen has missed his side’s last four games after limping off against Liverpool at Anfield at the beginning of the month (5 March).

“It’s a big blow,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s been a real positive for them, a real attacking force. He’s done incredibly well for them and adds an awful lot to their game. Not having him will be a big miss.

“We’re now getting towards the business end of the season so someone might rise to the occasion, people might start to get fit who weren’t previously.

“It’s still a way off yet, there’s still a period of time for players to come through. West Ham, with where they are, have a great opportunity to get to a semi-final of the Europa League.”

West Ham welcome Lyon to the London Stadium on 7 April before travelling to France for the return leg the following week.

The winner will face Barcelona or Eintracht Frankfurt for a place in the final at Seville.

In other news, West Ham are to let a £17million star go as Moyes makes up his mind.
