West Ham hit by hammer blow after Jarrod Bowen update – pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted the West Ham dressing room will be devastated to see Jarrod Bowen ruled out of Sunday’s game against Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker claimed the 25-year-old’s movement and running helps his teammates immensely.

As confirmed by David Moyes on Friday (11 March), Bowen will sit out against Villa with the heel knock suffered against Liverpool.

Moyes confessed the Irons “missed” the winger in Thursday’s 1-0 defeat to Sevilla.

Whelan insisted Bowen’s teammates will have now realised just how much he offers in the final third.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Throughout the whole season, and last season as well, he’s one of these players that has progressed and got better and better under David Moyes.

“He’s proven how potent he is, how dangerous he is and how clever he is dangerous he is and how clever he is.

“It’s one of these players that until you don’t have him, you don’t realise how much he’s got to offer and what he does for the side.

“I think they noticed that the other night against Sevilla, just how important he is. How dangerous he is with the ball at his feet.

“But not just that, it’s the runs that he makes, you know. He makes the mind up for players on the ball with those runs that he makes in behind with that pace and energy he has.

“You’re talking about really important players in teams that can make a difference. You feel the loss of them. He’s one of them for West Ham.

“I think they realise how important he is to their side in the style and the way they play.”
