West Ham hit by transfer blow ahead of January window

Promise David may not want to be involved in a relegation battle amid his links to West Ham.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid West Ham’s interest in David from Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

West Ham’s 3-0 defeat at Man City leaves Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in the relegation zone, and five points off safety.

In recent years West Ham have had a problem signing strikers, but Nuno is in need of a goal scorer to take some of the burden off Jarrod Bowen.

Promise David not the ‘prolific’ striker West Ham need

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes David may not be making the right move joining West Ham.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the 24-year-old’s form has dipped due to speculation over his future.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “One of the great football player names of all time, Promise David. Yes, he’s promising all sorts of things, and he has promised a lot, but he has really not over-delivered this season.

I think he’s had five goals and eight appearances, so he’s not exactly, you know, he’s reasonable but not prolific, and I think there’s been a bit of a dip in form. Certainly, I think all the transfer speculation has certainly affected him, and I don’t know if he’d really be interested in coming to West Ham if there’s going to be a relegation battle.

“That’s something a young player has got to think about. I think he’s known as Baby Lukaku, and he is quite an imposing figure, and he certainly has got the talent. But I don’t think for him a move or his agent would be thinking about a move right now to somebody involved in a relegation battle.”

West Ham targeting Championship striker

West Ham have set aside £20million for a new striker in the January transfer window, with Norwich City’s Josh Sargent a target.

Sargent has previously scored just two goals in 26 appearances for Norwich in the Premier League, but the 25-year-old has been prolific in the Championship.

The American has scored six goals and contributed three assists in the Championship this season, but the Canaries may be unwilling to sell due to their position in the bottom three.
