West Ham in talks to seal ‘perfect’ deal after Fabianski reveal – pundit

Tying Lukasz Fabianski down to a new one-year deal would be “perfect” business from West Ham, according to Noel Whelan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted the 36-year-old is well-deserving of a new contract after his performances.

Speaking to Polish news outlet Meczyki, Fabianski confirmed there have been “preliminary talks” over a one-year extension in east London.

The shot-stopper’s current terms expire at the end of the season.

Despite the arrival of Alphonse Areola on loan, Fabianski has remained David Moyes’ first-choice keeper this term.

Whelan insisted keeping the Polish star’s experience and quality on board is a no-brainer for the Irons.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s perfect. You’re talking about a club running it the right way.

“This is exactly what I’m talking about, nailing down these people very important to the club. People that have been there for a long time now, know the ins and outs of the football club.

“But are also very good players, putting in some good performances and obviously a good character to be around. A good professional in the changing rooms and on the training grounds.

“Rightly so he gets that extension to stay there one more season. To go through the good times they’re going through right now.

“Again, it’s a sign of a football club that is running business properly.”

Fabianski has not missed a minute of the Hammers’ Premier League games this season.

However, he has been benched for all but one European or domestic cup game.
