Sources: West Ham make move to sign Leander Dendoncker in Wolves part-exchange deal

West Ham have asked Wolves about signing Leander Dendoncker as part of the Craig Dawson deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The London club have made a move for the Belgium international in a new deadline-day twist.

Dawson has been targeted by Wolves and Aston Villa as he looks to move to the Midlands to be closer to his family.

David Moyes has confirmed he does not want to lose the centre-back but is braced for his exit.

An enquiry has been made about Dendoncker being part of a part-exchange deal for Dawson.

West Ham are working on multiple deadline-day deals and have an agreement in place for Southampton centre-back Jan Bednarek.

Dendoncker, who is out of contract in the summer of 2023, joined Wolves from Anderlecht in August 2019.

The 27-year-old has turned out 159 times for the Midlands side, with those appearances yielding 12 goals and four assists in total.

Five of those outings have come in the current campaign, although he was an unused substitute in Wolves’ last match, the 0-0 draw with Bournemouth on Wednesday (31 August).

Dendoncker is naturally a midfield pivot but is also accomplished in a more advanced midfield role as well as at centre-back.

West Ham have spent over £160m in the summer window so far, with eight new additions in total.

David Moyes’ side drew 1-1 with Tottenham on Wednesday (31 August) and are 14th in the Premier League table.
