‘West Ham must sell more first-XI stars this summer’ as four exits confirmed
West Ham have already confirmed four summer exits ahead of what is expected to be another big transfer overhaul.
The Irons revealed on Friday (9 May) that Aaron Cresswell, Lukasz Fabianski, Vladimir Coufal and Danny Ings will leave when their contracts expire next month.
Football Insider revealed on 14 April manager Graham Potter is demanding to be heavily backed this summer as he looks to get West Ham moving in the right direction again.
Potter has failed to turn fortunes around at the London Stadium, with the Irons sitting 17th in the Premier League table with three games left to play.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed West Ham will have to sell more first-XI stars if they are to meet Potter’s demands.
West Ham ‘can’t open the chequebook’ as things stand, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted the Irons don’t have many sellable assets in their current squad.
He cited Lucas Paqueta, who was once linked with an £80million Man City move but is now potentially facing a lifetime ban for allegedly breaking gambling rules.
Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
15 | Man United | 35 | 39 | -9 |
16 | Tottenham | 35 | 38 | +6 |
17 | West Ham | 35 | 37 | -19 |
18 | Ipswich Town (R) | 35 | 22 | -41 |
19 | Leicester City (R) | 35 | 21 | -47 |
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “West Ham are going to be up against it.
“There aren’t that many assets to sell at the club right now.
“The Paqueta situation hasn’t been resolved, so who is going to touch him right now knowing he could be banned?
“There will have to be some trading if they are to do business, definitely.
“They’ll also have to keep one eye on PSR, although I don’t think it’s critical quite yet.
“It does mean they can’t open the chequebook as they did last summer.”

Soucek could reunite with Moyes at Everton
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (29 April) that Tomas Soucek could push for a David Moyes reunion at Everton in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The West Ham star is a target for the Toffees and Leeds and an offer of £10-15million could seal a deal for the midfielder.
Soucek, 30, could push for a move away from the Irons if Potter can’t promise him regular first-team football into the 2025-26 campaign.
