West Ham news: Campbell makes Declan Rice prediction after another ‘big’ injury development

West Ham manager David Moyes could drop Declan Rice back in at centre-half after another defensive injury blow.

That is the view of former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the injury crisis at the London Stadium.

Moyes only has one senior centre-back fit in Craig Dawson ahead of this Sunday’s trip to Chelsea.

Everton

As reported by The Guardian‘s Jacob Steinberg (19 April), Issa Diop could miss the rest of the season after suffering an ankle ligament injury.

Diop joins Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma on the sidelines.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the latest injury, Campbell said: “Its a big problem, of course.

“Rice may well move back there. Moyes will hope the other centre-halves are not out for too long.

“Rice could always go back there though. He is a versatile player and is more than capable of slotting into the defence. He would have no problems playing in that position.

“It would be a shame if he has to come out of the midfield but when injuries come you have to adapt. Rice going into the defence could sure them up at the back. Having just one centre-half fit is a really tough one.”

West Ham

Rice has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season in the West Ham midfield.

The England international has made 43 appearances across all competitions.
