West Ham news: David Moyes has thrown five senior stars under the bus after latest – Agbonlahor

West Ham need to sign backups to five key players in the summer if they want to be able to compete in Europe and the Premier League.

That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England attacker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after West Ham’s meek 3-1 loss to Tottenham on Sunday (20 March).

David Moyes made just two changes to the starting XI that beat Sevilla 2-0 after extra time in the Europa League just three days before – including swapping goalkeepers.

As quoted by football.london after the game, Moyes insisted there was nothing wrong with his side’s energy levels.

But Agbonlahor has insisted he needs to sign backups for Declan Rice, Michail Antonio, Craig Dawson, Aaron Cresswell and Tomas Soucek.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Against Spurs, you cannot judge West Ham, to be honest.

“Ask any footballer, if you play 90 minutes, never mind 120 minutes, it’s impossible to get your legs going three days later.

“West Ham looked like a tired team on Sunday. That’s on the manager and owners not investing in the squad.

“That should have been a game where five, six or seven players were rotated. There were so many players who shouldn’t have been out there, they should have been rotated.

“Because they haven’t got the quality on the bench, Declan Rice has to play every game, Antonio has to play every game, Cresswell does, Dawson does, Soucek does. It’s too much football for them.”

West Ham now have eight Premier League games to try and secure a European place and are also in the Europa League quarter-finals.

They are next in action when Everton visit the London Stadium next month (3 April).
