West Ham news: Expert issues ‘Super League’ claim after David Moyes hits out at Uefa

Kevin Campbell has slammed Uefa’s proposed change to Champions League qualification after West Ham manager David Moyes spoke out on the issue.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker pointed to the failed European Super League of April 2021 when discussing the news.

The Telegraph‘s Sam Wallace claimed (2 April) that FA Cup winners could qualify for the Champions League from 2024 onwards under new rules being considered by Uefa.

However, only clubs who have a history of success in European competition would be be able to qualify in the potential new system.

As quoted by Football.London (3 April), Moyes rubbished the idea and insisted qualification should be on sporting merit and not history.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the proposed changes, Campbell said:

“When the Super League was discussed, we said it would come back in a different form. Now we are starting to see it again. They are trying to favour the big teams and give then an advantage.

“If you can qualify for the Champions League by winning the FA Cup then great. But whoever wins the FA Cup should qualify for it, not just the teams with a history of success. Not just the big six. It should be anybody. That is how it should be.

“I am not into any of this favouritism business. Whoever you are, you have to earn it.”
