West Ham news: Michail Antonio and two teammates ‘very poor for a long time’ and will cost top-four – pundit
Michail Antonio, Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma have been “very poor for a long time” and will cost West Ham a place in the top-four.
That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England forward Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as West Ham’s top-four hopes slip away.
David Moyes’ side have won just one of their last five Premier League games and have dropped to fifth.
They are four points behind fourth-place Man United but the teams below them, Tottenham, Arsenal and Wolves all have games in hand.
“West Ham remind me of Aston Villa under Martin O’Neill,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“We teased our fans with finishing in the top-four and finished sixth for three seasons in a row because we didn’t have enough to get over the line.
“We ran out of steam in February and West Ham are exactly the same. They are a great team but they are running out of steam. They will finish eighth this season.
“Wolves will be ahead of them, Wolves have got more in the locker than West Ham.
“They are overreliant on Michail Antonio and he’s been very poor for a long time, for me. Whenever he gets on the ball his first touch is not great.
“Benrahma and Fornals have also been very poor.
“The only performers have been Bowen and Rice, everyone else has been poor.
“They’ve got no chance of making the top-four and no chance of making the top-six.”
West Ham host fellow top-six rivals Wolves a the London Stadium on Sunday (27 February).
Wolves have won five of their last six Premier League games.
