West Ham news: Pundit ‘100 per cent’ sure on Jarrod Bowen amid ‘incredible’ verdict
Noel Whelan has insisted he would find it “difficult to take” if West Ham star Jarrod Bowen isn’t called up to represent England next month.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the “incredible” 25-year-old is one of David Moyes’ “best ever signings”.
Bowen grabbed a goal and an assist in West Ham’s 2-2 draw with Leicester on Sunday (13 February), sparking fresh calls for the former Hull forward to get international recognition.
Only Mohamed Salah (19 goals, six assists) has contributed more combined goals and assists than Bowen (eight goals, eight assists) in the Premier League this season.
Gareth Southgate will name his next England squad next month with friendlies against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast on the slate.
When asked if Bowen’s form warrants a Three Lions call-up, Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Absolutely, 100% – he’s been so consistent for West Ham.
“He’s played out wide and through the middle, and he’s scoring goals in both roles. Every chance that comes his way ends up in the back of the net at the moment.
“He’s full of confidence, belief, and trust and he’s showing just what an incredible player he is. He’s adapted to the Premier League and is showing that sort of form we saw from him in the Championship.
“He has to be one of David Moyes’ best ever signings. He was part of that revamp when he came in for the second time.
“He’s consistently improving throughout the seasons. I’d find it very difficult to take if Gareth Southgate were to ignore his form for the next England squad.”

West Ham sit fourth in the Premier League.
They face Newcastle on Saturday (19 February).
