West Ham news: Pundit issues ‘100%’ David Moyes verdict after confirmed news – ‘there’s no way’

Noel Whelan has insisted there is “no way” West Ham will prioritise the Europa League despite their dream of a top-four Premier League finish fizzling out.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed 58-year-old boss David Moyes’ “never say die” attitude will mean they continue to fight on both fronts for the remainder of the season.

West Ham were drawn against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final last week (18 March) after seeing off Sevilla in the Round of 16.

Moyes’ side face a potential blockbuster semi-final clash against Barcelona or Eintracht Frankfurt if they can overcome the French giants.

The Irons’ hopes of European qualification via the Premier League took a dent on Sunday (20 March) after their 3-1 away loss against rivals Tottenham.

However, Whelan claimed there is “no way” West Ham will prioritise Europe with their team selection.

“I don’t think they’ve got the mentality to just concentrate 100% on one competition, there’s no way,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“They’ll never say die, and that’s David Moyes’ attitude. That’s what we’ve seen from West Ham in these past two seasons.

“Look, the schedule is demanding. It’s not easy to travel around like that and play all these games in quick succession.

“It’s harder for West Ham than the likes of Chelsea or Man City because the squad is a lot smaller.

“They’ve got around 14 or 15 players who will play every game to give them the best chance of winning.

“It’s a tough ask, but it’s a real adventure.

Not for one second do I think they’ll be prioritising the Europa League over trying to finish as high as they can in the Premier League.”
