West Ham news: Pundit issues verdict on senior stars being omitted for Southampton clash

David Moyes will not make wholesale changes to his West Ham side for the FA Cup clash against Southampton, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Hammers have a “massive opportunity” to secure silverware this term.

West Ham travel to Southampton to face Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men on Wednesday (2 March) – just over 80 hours after their win over Wolves.

The Champions League hopefuls then face a trip to Anfield on Saturday before a two-legged European showdown against Sevilla.

When asked if Moyes could shuffle the pack with those important games on the horizon, Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think so.

“He’s not done it yet domestically, and the one thing about David Moyes is that he’s honest. He might change a couple. I’m very sure he’ll put out a very strong side capable of advancing in this competition.

“When was the last time West Ham brought back some silverware? This could be a massive opportunity for them, and Moyes won’t want to waste any game.

“He’s always shown great integrity in the game and put out the strongest side he could. I don’t think this game will be any different.

“He won’t want any slip-ups, and let’s not forget – winning breeds winning.”
