Medical expert names Vladimir Coufal return date after official West Ham surgery update

West Ham right-back Vladimir Coufal could return within five or six weeks after successful surgery on a groin injury.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Coufal was forced to withdraw with what was later revealed to be a hernia injury in the Hammers’ 2-2 draw with Leicester City on 13 February.

He is one of eight Irons stars currently out injured, giving David Moyes the longest absentee list in the Premier League.

West Ham announced last Thursday (24 February) that the Czech defender has had an operation and will “begin his rehabilitation immediately”.

Dinnery claims that the 29-year-old is likely to return well before the end of the season.

“The decision was taken to go under the knife with one eye on a potential return this season,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Who knows where they are going to be pushing for domestically, but they also have their irons in the fire in the Europa League.

“We are typically looking at that five to six-week period, all being well.

“So it could be early April or possibly after that international break. You can’t rule that out.”

Coufal has supplied four assists in 24 appearances this term for the Hammers, who are just two points outside the top four.

Ben Johnson, who recently signed a two-year contract extension, is the Iron’s second-choice right-back.
