West Ham tipped to seal ‘very clever’ Broja signing after source reveal today – pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed a potential move for Armando Broja would be “very good thinking” by West Ham.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 20-year-old has proved his “quality” in the Premier League on loan at Southampton.
This site exclusively revealed today (24 January) that West Ham are lining up talks with Chelsea over the possible transfer of Broja as they look to beat the Saints to a late-window deal.
A Hammers source has told Football Insider that the club are closely monitoring the striker’s situation with recruitment chief Rob Newman running the rule over Broja.
Whelan claimed the Albania international has “passed the test” during his loan spell on the south coast.
“They’ve seen him playing week-in, week-out in the Premier League and it’s clear that he’s got the quality to do that,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Sometimes there can be question marks over young players coming through, but he’s passed the test at Southampton. He’s handled everything that the Premier League has thrown at him.
“He’s a player they will know can handle the pressure and one they can rely on. He also wouldn’t have to move too far, with it being a move inside London.
“I would say that it would be a very clever move from West Ham if they can get that done. It’s very good thinking.”

Michail Antonio is currently the only recognised striker on the books at West Ham.
Broja has netted seven goals in 21 games for Southampton this term.
