Kieran Maguire: West Ham to ‘break the £200m barrier’ after announcement

West Ham will be looking to “break the £200million barrier” in terms of revenue in 2022-23.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how another season of European football will benefit the Hammers.

David Moyes’ side finished 7th in the Premier League in 2021-22, missing out on a Europa League place after a final-day defeat to Brighton.

West Ham

But they will compete in the Europa Conference League, Uefa’s third-tier club competition.

West Ham announced last Monday (23 May) that they are likely to be one of the tournament’s seeded teams and will therefore go straight in at the group stage.

And Maguire predicts that European football will see the Irons go one further than the £193m they earned in their last recorded accounting year.

“Sponsors like it because more matches equal more exposure,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“There are lots of positives. There is a minimum of another three home games at the London Stadium. West Ham got the pricing right this season and that resulted in some decent attendances.

“They made £193m in 2020-21. That was skewed because they had more Premier League games because of Covid delays. But they will be looking to break the £200m barrier in terms of total income.

“This will help them with regards to that. Conference League money isn’t huge but there is no reason with prize money and matchday that you can’t make £20m to £25m per year.”

West Ham reached the semi-finals of the Europa League in 2021-22.

They were beaten by Eintracht Frankfurt, who went on to win the competition.
