Sources: West Ham to sign £7m-plus deal before next season

West Ham are expected to keep Umbro as their kit supplier next season despite suggestions that they could switch to Nike, sources have told Football Insider.

A final decision has not been signed off, but those familiar with the matter are increasingly confident that the Hammers will line up in Umbro-branded kits for a ninth consecutive season in 2023-24.

The club have explored alternative options despite having announced what was described as a “long-term” extension with the UK-based company in 2020.

That deal is believed to have been pencilled in beyond 2022-23, but a break clause – a standard proviso in agreements between clubs and commercial partners – would have allowed them to exit it early.

West Ham earn north of £7million per season from the deal, as well as a relatively small cut of the profits from each unit sold.

The continuation of the arrangement is not contingent on whether or not David Moyes’ side, who are currently only outside the bottom three on goal difference, retain their Premier League status this term.

Betway will also remain as the Irons’ front-of-shirt sponsor, although the club’s commercial team have begun the search for a new deal in this department.

That is partly due to an upcoming ban on gambling sponsorship in the Premier League which will eventually make it impossible for West Ham to maintain its long-standing alliance with the bookmaker.

The club registered commercial income of £48m in 2021-22, with just over £13m coming from retail and merchandising.
