West Ham told to complete Antonio ally signing after ‘huge’ update – pundit

Paul Robinson has pointed the finger at the West Ham hierarchy for failing to sign cover for Michail Antonio.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the London club need to “make their squad stronger” after David Moyes “moaned” about the winter schedule.

On Sunday, the Hammers lost ground in the race for the top four after a 3-2 defeat at home to Leeds United.

Speaking after the loss, as quoted by Football.London (16 January), Moyes said fatigue was “a huge factor” in his side’s lacklustre performance.

He added that Antonio was “out on his legs” after playing three games in a week.

Robinson gave no sympathy for the Irons and claimed they should have signed another striker by now.

“It’s been a problem for 12 months,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“When you take Antonio and take the goals he scores out of that team they struggle. It’s also a problem when he suffers a dip in form as well.

“They need reinforcements in that area. They need somebody who can lead the line like he does.

“Three games in a week is tough but this amount of fixtures is nothing new. Nearly all of the managers moan about fixture pileup but we talk about it every season.

“The Premier League is tough in December and January but it has been like that for the last 10 years. The frequency of fixtures in this period is part of the reason why it’s the best league in the world.

“Clubs need to sign more players, make their squad stronger and be ready for the period when it comes.”
