West Ham told to complete ‘exciting’ Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain deal after price tag update – pundit

Noel Whelan has backed West Ham to complete an “exciting” deal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as they look to add depth ahead of another European campaign.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed David Moyes can “get the best” out of the 28-year-old – just as he did with out-of-favour star Jesse Lingard last season.

According to the Daily Mirror (25 April), Aston Villa and West Ham have been put on “red alert” with Liverpool ready to sanction the sale of Oxlade-Chamberlain for “in excess of £10million” this summer.

The midfield star is out of contract at Anfield at the end of next season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 29 appearances this season but his last Premier League appearance came in February.

Whelan insisted the England international’s versatility could prove a major selling point for Moyes.

He told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge: “He’s an exciting player, isn’t he?

“You could play him in the middle of the park, you can play him out wide. There are options for David Moyes when it comes to Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“West Ham are in Europe as well. They’re going to need all the depth they can get if they’re to go far in that competition.

“Moyes is a manager who can get the best out of these kinds of players, we’ve seen that with Jesse Lingard.

“He could add a lot of quality to that West Ham side.”

West Ham

West Ham will play in the Europa Conference League next season following their seventh-place finish.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has notched 17 goals and 15 assists across 133 games during a five-year spell on Merseyside.
