West Ham told to complete Lewis Ferguson signing by Irons idol
West Ham have been told to sign Lewis Ferguson to replace Thomas Soucek in midfield and refresh the team after the arrival of Julen Lopetegui.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers striker Frank McAvennie explained that, despite his injury ruling him out of the Euros, Ferguson, 24, would be perfect for West Ham’s midfield.
Currently plying his trade with Bologna in Italy having left Aberdeen in 2022, the Scotland international made 33 appearances last season and led his side to a shock fifth-placed finish.
However, towards the end of the season, Ferguson suffered a cruciate ligament injury and could be ruled out for the rest of the year.
McAvennie, meanwhile, insisted that Soucek’s poor performances should have seen him dropped under David Moyes, and the change of manager and arrival of Ferguson could facilitate that.

Ferguson joined Bologna for just £3million two years ago and reports have since linked him with a move to the likes of Juventus and AC Milan for upwards of £20million.
McAvennie insisted he would be the ideal player in the Hammers’ midfield, sitting deep and allowing the flair players to go forward.
“They need some more signings,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s a pity he’s injured, but I always wanted Lewis Ferguson to play for West Ham.
“He’s over in Italy at the moment, but he got injured unfortunately and he’s not going to make it to the Euros.
“That’s my kind of player, he’s who I would want in that midfield to let the other players go and play.
“With the new manager coming in, who knows?

“I don’t know if he’ll drop Soucek. Sometimes he was playing awful and needed to be dropped out. David never did that with Soucek.
“Sometimes it’s good for players just to take a seat and win their place back.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what the new guy does.”
