West Ham told to complete Oleksandr Zinchenko signing after what pundit has seen

Noel Whelan has urged West Ham to beat Arsenal to the “exciting” signing of Man City star Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, revealed he has been a “big admirer” of the 25-year-old throughout his time in England.

According to the Evening Standard (6 June), Arsenal and West Ham have stepped up their interest in Zinchenko ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report claims Man City will not stand in the way of the versatile star as the Irons search for a new left-back.

He played 28 times, including 10 league starts, in the 2021-22 season as Pep Guardiola’s side lifted the Premier League.

Whelan admitted he was impressed with Zinchenko’s performance in midfield during Ukraine’s recent World Cup play-off games – describing him as a “natural”.

When asked if the 25-year-old would be a good addition for West Ham, he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I do.

“I’ve been a big admirer of Zinchenko throughout his time at Man City.

“You see him playing for Ukraine as well, he’s further forward and he doesn’t look a bit out of place.

“He’s a natural – whether that’s midfield or left-back.

“If they’re bringing in a new striker as well, he could really benefit from the quality of service that Zinchenko could provide.

“That could be a really exciting signing.”

West Ham

Zinchenko is under contract at Man City until June 2024.

West Ham will play Europa Conference League football in the 2022-23 campaign.
