West Ham told to go for Aaron Wan-Bissaka ‘in the summer’ after ‘big’ update – pundit

West Ham should not sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Man United as he would not fix their ailing defence.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 25-year-old’s future.

As per 90min (16 December), Leeds and West Ham have shown an interest in signing Wan-Bissaka from Man United.

Ahead of Wednesday’s (22 December) win over Burnley, the right-back had played just four minutes of senior football this season after being deemed surplus to requirements by Erik Ten Hag.

However, Wan-Bissaka started against the Clarets and registered an assist in a 2-1 win.

Despite an impressive performance, McManus claims West Ham should not sign the defender.

“Him going to West Ham? Maybe not, for me,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“West Ham need defenders in, central defenders especially. Wan-Bissaka does have a good tackle on him but if you are signing him you are signing him to be a wing-back.

“He’s at his best near the opposition box so I’m not sure how much help he will actually give to the defence.

“He would cost a bit of money too so if they are looking at him, I think they should be looking to spend big elsewhere.

“If he still wants a move in the summer then that is when to go for him.”

Wan-Bissaka joined Man United from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2019.

He has made 127 appearances for the club.
