West Ham told to terminate Kalvin Phillips deal – ‘he’s terrible’, says expert
West Ham United should terminate Kalvin Phillips’ loan move after his “terrible” start.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie destroyed the midfielder for “making excuses” for his poor displays in the wake of his red card against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (17 February).
Phillips spoke after the Forest loss claiming that he was not sharp enough or match-ready despite “training with the best team in the world” before his loan from Man City.
The England international has made two starts for the Irons since his January move and has been widely blasted by fans and other pundits for his unimpactful performances.
West Ham United should send Kalvin Phillips back to Man City, according to Frank McAvennie
McAvennie was adamant that fans have not seen enough from Phillips and questioned if he was Premier League quality.
“I’d send Phillips back – he’s done nothing,” he told Football Insider.
“He hasn’t done anything good at all and he’s been terrible.
“I know in his first game [against Bournemouth] Kurt Zouma gave him a terrible pass that led to their goal, but he’s had an absolute shocker since then.
“To be fair to him, he’d not played [while at City] – but he’s making excuses.
“I don’t know if he’s as good as people are making him out to be.
“He was great when he was playing for Leeds.
“But when he’d played for England, he’s played against rubbish teams.
“Is he good enough to play in the Premier League?

“He hasn’t proven anything to me even though I thought he was the kind of player that West Ham needed.
“The harder he tries, the worse it’s getting for him.”
