West Ham transfer news: David Sullivan fuming with Tim Steidten after move collapses – Sources

West Ham chairman David Sullivan has been left “unhappy” with technical director Tim Steidten after the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that one particular failed transfer has left Sullivan dissatisfied with the 44-year-old German.

West Ham made just one January addition – bringing Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips to the club on a loan deal.

It is believed Sullivan felt the Irons should have got more deals over the line in the mid-season window and has pointed the finger at Steidten for one failed deal.

The German was instrumental in last year’s (2023) summer window as the Londoners signed the likes of Edson Alvarez, Mohammed Kudus and James Ward-Prowse.

All three players have had a positive impact overall at the London Stadium despite the recent downturn in form.

Football Insider revealed on 30 January that West Ham transfer chief Steidten is a leading contender to be the new Liverpool director of football.

The German has refused to rule out a move to Anfield in recent quotes – insisting the interest is an “honour”.

Steidten worked with Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, with the Spaniard the clear favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool this summer.
