West Ham victims of two injustices as Tomas Soucek footage analysed – pundit
Alan Hutton has slammed the decisions of officials Peter Bankes and Simon Hooper in Southampton’s game against West Ham on Sunday (16 October).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender understands why David Moyes was annoyed after the game.
As shown on the BBC’s Match of the Day 2 (16 October), Southampton’s Romain Perraud brought down Tomas Soucek in the penalty area in the first half.
The incident was not investigated by VAR despite claims the away side should have been awarded a penalty.
For Southampton’s opening goal, Bankes got in the way of Jarrod Bowen and stopped him from challenging Peraud who scored with a long-range effort.
As quoted by Football.London (16 October), Moyes blamed Bankes for the Hammers’ inability to secure all three points.
Hutton also slammed the decisions of the officials in the 1-1 draw.
“I do not get it,” he told Football Insider.
“I genuinely do not understand. If I am marking a corner and I put both arms around someone and I pull them to the ground, that is a foul. It is obvious. You can tell why Moyes is so annoyed.

“Obviously with the goal as well. The referee getting in the way, how can that be allowed? He is actually stopping Jarrod Bowen getting to the ball. How is that allowed? There is such a grey area.
“VAR is good on the whole but there seems be talking points every single week.“
