West Ham won’t terminate deal – ‘he’s just signed a massive contract’

West Ham are not expected to terminate Julen Lopetegui’s contract in the near future due to the massive contract he signed in the summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson admitted he thinks Lopetegui will be “given more and more time” in charge of the club.

The Hammers initially brought the 58-year-old in to replace David Moyes in a bid to provide more pragmatic football which the fanbase had been demanding.

However, the results have been disappointing this season which has left the club 13th in the Premier League table.

Football Insider revealed the hierarchy are considering replacement options due to rumblings of “lots of distress” within the squad, but Robinson has backed the coach to stick around.

West Ham aren’t going to sack Julen Lopetegui soon

He’ll be given more and more time because the West Ham board, they don’t like paying compensation,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“He’s just signed a massive contract in the summer and that’s what’s given him a stay of execution.

“All the season tickets have been bought, they can’t give the fans the money back, the stadium’s full.

“Unless they’re getting sucked into that bottom three, I don’t see them making a change until the summer, until the end of the season.

“Because you look at where they are now, are they going to get Champions League? No. Are they going to get relegated? No.

“What’s a new manager going to come in and do other than maybe turn the odd result around and take the club in a different direction?

“But that’s going to cost the board a lot more money.”
