What David Moyes has already said about Ivan Toney as Everton eye shock transfer
Premier League clubs are plotting a move for Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney once the January transfer window opens.
Toney is open to leaving Al-Ahli on loan to improve his chances of making Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup.
West Ham have been linked with a move for Toney, seeing him as the ideal candidate to resolve their striking woes.
However, Everton are better placed to sign Toney, according to sources close to Football Insider, and David Moyes has already given his seal of approval on the striker.

David Moyes rates ‘really intelligent’ Ivan Toney
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday, October 21, that Moyes is determined to bring in a new striker to Everton as he plans to replace Beto.
Toney has emerged as a possible candidate for the role, and the former Brentford sharp-shooter is someone the Scotsman is familiar with.
Premier League season | Appearances / Goals |
2021/22 | 33 / 12 |
2022/23 | 33 / 20 |
2023/24 | 17 / 4 |
Speaking of the 29-year-old in February 2024, Moyes said: “I think he’s someone who’s always thinking about the football, considering the moments
“He’s got an awful lot of good things as a footballer. Obviously, there’s a coolness about his finishing and how he plays, and he’s got a physical element to him. But also, importantly, he’s got a really intelligent football brain at times.”
Everton are crying out for a focal point up top as new signing Thierno Barry and Beto have struggled, with Toney clearly a huge improvement.

Everton’s top scorers prove why Toney is needed
A reliable marksman can propel Everton into European contention in 2025/26, and Toney ticks that box.
The Englishman could form a mouth-watering forward trio alongside Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye, who is currently the Toffees’ top scorer with three.
Meanwhile, six players are tied on one goal each in the Premier League, including James Garner, Michael Keane, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Idrissa Gueye, Beto and Grealish.
It’s great that Moyes’ men can score from anywhere across the pitch, but having someone who relishes putting the ball in the back of the net can increase their chances of success.
