What Sean Dyche said in March shows how he will transform Nottingham Forest

Sean Dyche needs to provide instant results for Nottingham Forest and he has already proven he can do that.

Dyche was appointed by Forest on Tuesday (21 October) morning, replacing Ange Postecoglou at the City Ground.

Postecoglou was sacked by owner Evangelos Marinakis over the weekend, after just over a month in charge.

Forest have failed to win any of their last ten games, and have slipped into the Premier League relegation zone.

Sean Dyche can reproduce Everton heroics at Nottingham Forest

When Dyche was appointed as Everton manager back in January 2023, the Toffees were on a run of 10 games without a win in all competitions, exactly the same as Forest are now.

The Merseyside club were in turmoil, fighting financial issues while their top-flight status hung in the balance as they sat 19th in the Premier League.

However, Dyche came in and completely changed the atmosphere, immediately providing results.

In his first game in charge, Everton went away to the Emirates and beat title-challenging Arsenal 1-0, before the 54-year-old led his side to a vital win over relegation rivals Leeds United two weeks later.

The Toffees stayed up on the last day of the season, with a lot of credit going to Dyche for the way he had turned things around at Goodison Park.

There is no reason why the former Everton boss can’t recreate what he did on Merseyside with Nottingham Forest and spark a revival at the City Ground.

However, it is no different to the situation the Englishman walked into at Everton, and he was able to provide instant results on Merseyside.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast back in March, Dyche detailed how he turned the Toffees’ fortunes around.

He said: “We went in there and you’re looking around going, goodness me, this is all over the place. The crowd are against the team because the team have not been doing very well. The negativity and the cloud around the place was huge.

“And I thought, well, let’s start with the basics. So the first thing I did was say, we’re going to tidy up the discipline, the organisation, and make sure the team is strong, fit and organised. I tried to give them roles and responsibilities that were clear, starting without the ball.”

Dyche is likely to strip everything back to basics at Nottingham Forest, as he did at Everton, and will hope that the strategy provides the same results.
