Whelan blown away by Leeds swoop for Barisic after weekend development
Noel Whelan insists Borna Barisic “ticks every single box” as Leeds United continue their hunt for a new left back.
The former Whites hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is not shocked by recent transfer speculation regarding the Rangers defender.
Talent spotters were dispatched to Wembley to assess him on Sunday but they will have left disappointed as Barisic didn’t even make the Croatia bench due to injury.
The full back’s current Rangers deal runs until 2024 after he agreed fresh terms in January 2020.
Whelan claims Barisic could easily adapt to Marcelo Bielsa’s style of play if he moved to Elland Road.

“He’s an established player who has played very well for his club side,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“You look at successful teams like Rangers and about players being noticed. When you win titles as emphatically as Rangers did, you get looked at.
“There will be loads of teams interested in him I’m sure. It doesn’t surprise me to hear Arsenal and Villa are looking at him.
“He’s just had a fantastic season, scoring goals, getting assists and keeping clean sheets.
“He ticks every single box. He gets up, he can defend, he’s a threat and he fits the style of play at Leeds United.”
Barisic was instrumental as Rangers won their 55th league title and impressed in Europe last season.
He made 50 appearances in all competitions last season, chipping in with five goals and fourteen assists.
