Whelan delivers bold Bamford prediction after talkSPORT criticism of Leeds star

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford will be included in the next England squad and will earn “many more caps” in the future.

That is the view of Whites ambassador Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 28-year-old’s Three Lions debut which was at times “very difficult”.

Speaking on talkSPORT (September 6th), ex-Spur Jamie O’Hara claimed the Leeds centre-forward “should not be out there” in an England shirt.

Whelan insisted Bamford is a great fit for Gareth Southgate’s side.

“It would have been such a proud moment for Patrick,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“It must have been amazing. He has worked so hard to get to that moment.

“Some of the touches he had were superb but let’s be honest, the service was not quite there for him. The longer the game went on, the more opportunities I felt he would get. It was very difficult in the first half playing against that low block. He was nearly on the end of a couple of opportunities but it just did not work out.

“It was a great start for him. He has that experience under his belt now and I’m sure there will be many more to come. He fits in nicely with the rest of the players out there because he is a forward thinking player.

“I’m sure he will be in the next squad. There will be many, many more caps for him to get over the next few years.

“He seems to have bedded into the international scene with everyone that is involved which is great.”
